Students Whittling Testimonials.

Hi
Myself and a friend booked a bird whittling course together with Glyn. We both had a great time. Glyn talked us through the safe use of the knife and preparing the bird blank.

Then we started whittling, with Glyn keeping us on track with his advice and expertise, which gave us the confidence to go home and finish our nuthatches by ourselves. But Glyn was still ready and willing to help with advice and follow up sessions so we could perfect our birds.

Since my first nuthatch, I have gone on to do a kingfisher and a wren, and I am partway through a blue tit. He gave me the inspiration and knowhow to start a new creative and satisfying hobby. Nicky R.

Bird Whittling Testimonials.

Hi Glyn,
These are my thoughts about why I enjoy bird whittling and why I think it is such a wonderful hobby. I became interested in bird whittling about 8 or 9 years ago after meeting Glyn at one of his workshops in Sutton on Sea. Lincolnshire.

Since then, I have managed to whittle 18 birds. The smallest being a wren and the largest being a Song Thrush. Some of my birds are a truer representation than others, but I am happy with them all and pleased with what I have achieved.

This is what Glyn has instilled in me as being the most important aspect of whittling, the pleasure and satisfaction that I take from it. As a hobby, it does not require any specialised equipment. Just a fixed blade Stanley knife, a lime wood bird block (bought from Glyn), and a box used for storage and also (hopefully) to catch the little bits of whittled wood.

Also, it is a hobby which can be carried out without the need for a dedicated space. Somewhere to sit is all you need. In summer, I often do my whittling while relaxing in the garden. Bird whittling is a hobby that you can spend as much time on as you are able. It is easy to return to if you haven’t been able to do any for a while.

As whittling involves slowly removing very small pieces of wood to gradually change the shape of the bird block, I find it a very relaxing hobby. It is very satisfying watching the bird slowly forming in my hand. Once the bird is completed, the sense of achievement is great as I think, “I made that.”

Regards, Bill S.

Loved My Whittling Experience.
My friend and I loved our whittling lesson, and he was accommodating. It was a very relaxed lesson, and he showed us how to line out the bird before starting and the right technique for using the Stanley knife.
