Whittling and carving books that have inspired me over the past years.

John Scheeler Bird Carver.
This book is one of the first books I purchased many years ago, and is well worth trying to buy. I can always remember seeing the owl and mouse carving and the two mallards flying, and thinking Wow! These are some of the world-class carvings you can read about.

30 Whittling Patterns.
The guide has got many examples for whittling birds and includes whittling steps for the Nuthatch pack I sell on the bird whittling website.

Carving Realistic Birds.
This book is worth looking at for beginner and advanced carving projects and bird patterns for Green woodpecker, Robin, Blue Tit, goldfinch etc. also including how to paint birds with the colour mixes.
Just a heads-up about this links page.
The links on this page are here purely as friendly recommendations of links and people I think are worth checking out if you are into whittling, carving, and searching for other craft ideas or wanting to display your craft items. That said, The Bird Whittler is not responsible for what happens once you click through. These are external sites, so explore at your own risk and discretion. Thank you.
Carving Books I love having on my bookshelf and find very helpful.

Sketchbook Of Birds
This book is by C.F. Tunnicliffe, R.A., a book everyone should have on their bookshelf, with excellent lifelike drawings.

Birds Of Prey by Floyd Scholz.
This book is another one of my favorites, and for anyone who loves birds of prey, the written content and photos are amazing. You also get examples of carving templates and how to paint.
Floyd's work is a masterclass for carvers and, for me, a whittler's drive for perfection!

Songbird Carvings with Ernest Muehlmatt.
I found this to be a very interesting book, with examples of how to carve and paint 10 of his favorite songbirds, and over 800 detailed step-by-step photos of American birds.
